CANDLEBERRYS HANDICAP IN FUTURITY. New York, September 1. R. T. Wilson, Jr., was not altogether disappointed at the failure of Candleberry to win the Futurity because he realized that the colt had an excuse for not running as well as he might have. Owing to some incomprehensible mistake on the part of some one connected, with the transportation arrangements. Candleberry and the other horses of the Wilson establishment which were shipped from Saratoga on what was supposed to lie a fast express train Sunday morning were detained on the road until Monday. It took the Wilson string more than twenty-four hours to accomplish a journey that should not have occupied more than six. Candleberry and his stablematcs suffered because the weather was oppressively hot. It is really surprising that Candleberry ran as well as he did. He must be an uncommon horse to have made such a showing, and there is no telling what he may do before the season is over.
