DUFFERIN PARK ,T0 OPEN SATURDAY. Toronto. Ont.. September 2. The Metropolitan Racing Association, operating under its recently granted federal charter, which was secured subsequent to the cancellation of the former Ontario charter of the York Hiding and Driving Association, controlled by practically the same directorate, has announced that it will inaugurate operations at the Dufferin Park track next Saturday. Hon. J. J. Foy. attorney-general of Ontario, states that no application has yet been made by the association for a provincial license. II. II. Dewart. legal adviser of the York Riding and Driving Association, who is acting in a similar eapacitv for the present organization, says: "It is intended to organize the company by holding a meeting of the provisional directors today, and whatever steps are necessary to enable them to do business in the province will be taken." The act passed bv the provincial legislature in 1900 respecting the licensing of extra-provincial corporations makes certain exceptions of companies where a provincial license is not required. The exceptions include corporations operating under charters granted by the former Province of Upper Canada, companies licensed previous to the passing of the act, corporations licensed under the Ontario insurance act or tlie loan corporations act. corporations liable to pay taxes under the supplementary revenue act. and "corporations not having gain for any of their objects." I dont know -that we have to bump our heads up against a stone wall by applying to the provincial government for anything." was the statement of P. A. Callen of the .Metropolitan Racing Association, when asked as to whether the association proposed to proceed with its racing circuit, under its recently granted federal charter, without securing a provin clal license. .
