GOVERNOR HUGHES REPRESENTATIVES. New York. September f. Half a dozen plainclothes men. representing the governor of New York, have visited Slieepshead Bay daily since the recent publication bv certain newspapers of mnliciously false and misleading stories of alleged violations of the Hart-Agnew law. Mr. Hughes sleuths this year are not of tin; grotesque self-starring Lanyoii kind. Tliev are a quiet, unobtrusive, hard-headed up-state lot. They have been sedulously industrious iu the performance of their duty, but one of them was heard to remark yesterday that he had not run across anything which bv the wildest stretch of the imagination could Ik; distorted into a violation of the law as the courts interpret it.
