LIVONIA AND HER HISTORY. New York. September 14. Woodford Clay and his brother, Buckner Clay, a lawyer of Charleston. W. Va.. bred Livonia, the most recent winner of the Great Eastern Handicap. Her dam. Woodray, a e-ast-eiff of the Belmont stable, belonged to the Clay brothers. Livonia was solel at auction by the Fasig-Tiptem Company for 25 to E. WeMirick. representing II. T. Grifiiu, because the Clays did not think her ged enough to ke-en. Griffin subsequently sold the filly to Max Hirsch. her present owner, for a reported price of ,500. That ex-jockey, who has become a trainer of skill, teieik Livonia to California last winter and won several races witli her. She was considered the smartest two-year-old lilly on the coast when the California season ended. Hirsch expected to win some races hereabouts last spring with Livonia, but the; filly was stale". It took a long time to freshen her up after her campaign in California. The Clay brothers no longer own Woeielrsiy.
