WINNERS OF THE SPECULATION STAKES : : t Even if it is a selling race the Speculation Stakes has been contested in its time by race horses of exalted merit, as the names of such swift ones as Markland, Blue Wing, Banquet, Equity, Raceland Captain T.. Now or Never, Stonenell, Hugh lemiy, Harry Reed. Savahle. Ben Eeler, Rondo, George Keene, St. Callatine, Cambrian, Charentus. Bannockburn, Iotente, Kinnikinnick, Autolight, De Reszke, True Wing, Wes and Rapid Water may well suggest. Quite a number of these horses were, at one time and another, raced over Chicago tracks, Raceland, Savahle, St. Cailatlne, Cambrian, Bannockburn, Iotente and Rapid Water being instances of horses familiarly known to local patrons of the sport of sjiorts. St. Callatine won the Englewexiel Stakes at Washington Park in 1S!S and iu doing so gave one of the most amazing displays of sjieed ever seen in that race, in coming from far back on the far turn and going by her tleet opponents in a twinkling to win in a canter.
