E. E. SMATHERS RETURN TO THE TURF. New York. September 14. It would be no surprise to eastern turf natrons to le-am that E. E. Smathers is contemplating a return to racing as an owner. When any of the Ilildreth horses was victorious at the Siieepshead Bay meeting, Smathers won a bet. Mr. Smathers has great faith in the skill and Judgment of the man who trained McChesnev for him. He put up ,200 to win 00 ou Fitz Herbert one day last week.
