The card was made up of seven races and had as features the Welcome Home Handicap, which brought together some of the best sprinters hereabouts, and the Civic Holiday Steeplechase Handicap. The fields were evenly balanced throughout the day. with the result that the public found the task of picking winners no easy matter. Two favorites, Patsaiaga and Grande Dame, were among the afternoons winners. George Hollos speedy Colloquy proved successful in the Welcome Home Handicap. She showed keen speed and led her opposition from start to finish, beating Charlie Eastman for first by a scant length. The Bedwell stable started Princo Ahmed and Pajaroita as an entry in the race, but neither of the pair finished amoDg the placed horses. Prince Ahmed lacked speed and was a distant trailer for most of the dlstauce. A bit of excitement was furnished race-goers at the conclusion of the second race, which was a selling affair. When Lexington Lady, the winner, was offered for sale, P. M. Civill stepped out on the track prepared to bid. Before he had an opportunity of making a bid he was assaulted by one Sidney Windier, who struck liim on the side of the face,, knocking him down. Civill recovered quickly and. scrambling to his feet, proceeded to bid up the mare to ,000, at which figure she was protected by her owner and bought in. When Windier struck Civill he was arrested by a Pinkerton man and hustled to the lock-up. The stewards took immediate action in the matter. A. J.
