Merman outbroke his opponents and rushed into a commanding lead before they had gone a furlong, was kept on the inside and saved ground on every turn, but tired and just managed to last long enough. Fearnaught II. closed up gamely after making the turn into the homestretch and appeared to have the wiimer beaten at the furlong post, but also tired in the final drive. Banives broke well, but lacked speed and did not run his race. Pulka was sharply cut off at the start and was pulled up. Detroit finished well. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. Won handily: second and third driving. Lexington Ladv. crowded back on the first turn, moved up fast on the baekstretch and, coming through on the inside when entering the homestretch, wore Woolstone down and won going away. Woolstone was rushed into a big lead on the baekstretch and had nothing left when the winner caught him. The Shaugh-raun met with much interference on the first turn and was pulled up, then closed a big gap in the last quarter and was gaining on the leaders at every stride. Oberon ran well. The latter, as usual, was far back In the early running, but closed up gamely in the hist half. Pretty Mlchal fenced well, ran a good race and should improve. The latter was hard ridden all of the last quarter and responded gamely. Autumn Girl closed up steadily at the end and fin-ished wearing Amanda Lee down. Magdalen swerved in the stretch. Elfall ran on the Inside all the way and, saving much ground, finished gamely. Carthage ran a poor race. Whisk Broom showed speed, but tired in the last quarter.
