CRACKS MAY MEET IN THE BOWIE. New York. September 15. It is not unlikely that the coming fall meeting at Pimlico may be marked by a race at two miles between cither Fitz Herbert or King James and Olanibala. the three greatest race horses of mature age in America. Sam llildreths stalwart champions and Richard T. Wilson. Jr.s sturdy colt have been nominated for the Bowie Stakes, a two-mile race of ,000 added that will pay the winner something like ,000 if a field of moderate strength assembles at the barrier. The Bowie is one of the new stakes President William Manley and Secretary William Rirgs. of the Maryland Jockey Club, decided last summer to open this fall. It was named in honor of Governor Bowie, one of the stannchest friends racing ever had in Maryland. Under the special conditions which fix the weights the three-year-olds will be required to take up 105 pounds apiece, and the four-year-olds 120 pounds. Olambala was cut up a bit in the Twin City, and lost so much blood that Richard T. Wilson, Jr.. considered retiring him for the year. But Olambala has since done so well that Mr. Wilson may easily change his mind and send the horse to try for the Bowie. Fitz Herbert, King James and Olambala are the best horses in the Bowie, but there are other good ones on the eligible list, notably Wintergreen, Effendi. Bio Grande. Jubilee, Fayette, Royal Tourist and Plantland.
