MONCRIEF COURSE SUFFERS CONTINUED RAINS PUT TRACK IN WORSE CONDITION THAN EVER BEFORE. Public Has Good Line on Hud Running Capabilities of Horses Engaged in Races and Winners Are Well Supported. Jacksonville. Fla., January 3. Conditions at Mon-crief Park this afternoon were ideal for mud runners. A steady rain fell all day and the track was deep and heavy. The going was probably worse than on any day since the course was constructed. The public had a fairly good line on the nuid-run-ning capabilities of the racers and a majority of the winners cam" from the ranks of well backed horses. Two favorites and two second choices won. The conditions of the races were framed to suit the poorer class of horses, one of them being a consolation affair in which the starters were owned by horsemen who" had not won a race at the meeting. This proved easy for Capt. II. M. Walkers Hon Ami. a son of Boanerges, himself a famous mud nner. McCahey rode Mon Ami and it was his only wj. uing mount of the day. Jockey J. Wilson, the Sehc-r rider, piloted two winners. Casque and Mauii Algol. Casques victory marked the first scored y Clint Do Witt at the meeting. Mr. Oe Witt sen; the favorite to the post for the consolation purse In Anna L. Daley, but repeated interference spoited her chances. Hugh MeCarren took another purse with his homebred Roseburj.; II. The latter won by five lengths after overcoming a commanding1 lead that leep Over obtained entering the homestretch. Usually when the goltift is heavy withdrawals are numerous, but today is an exception to the rule. S. inhardt has sold Merman to Guy Gray and wjlA retire from racing. James Duckworth is among the recent arrivals from Cincinnati. Jack lhillips also arrived. He came frm New Orleans. George Cblnns tilly. Sou, bled in her race today. A Bailer, who trained the horses of George Henr f wiry years on the Canadian tracks, was a recent visitor it Moneriof. He had the horse Teddy Bear at Peisacola and won a number of races with hlni; and thei sold him to George Benuett. He stated thntwben Mr. Hendrie disposed of his horses last season he retired as an owner for keeps. He is pait owner of the track at Windsor, Out., and will confine his attention to the racing plant. Mr. Bailer will train n string of jumpers next season for some well-known Canadians.
