As a result of his arehaeologic delving into the times when the Olympic stadium was built he was almost prepared to state that horse racimr was then to Greece what baseball is to the present time. The proclaiming of a horse race in those days was a clarion call for spectators from all parts of the country. lie told in a vivid manner, that interested his audience almost as much as the real thing could have, of the great race won by the girl Kynlska, and the spirit of the events attending that story was the general spirit of those times. Professor Emerson showed an illustration of the statue erected to commemorate the victory of the girl in one -of the greatest races of any time, and told of discoveries regarding the- Sparton girls fam-ilv which were of special interest to the scientists-.
