CMM COLORS TO THE FOEE KENTUCKY OWNER PLAYS CONSPICUOUS PART IN JACKSONVILLE RESULTS. Star Bluo Runs Sensational Race to Win the Miami Selling- Stakes Joe Knight a Likely Two-Year-Old Schorr Stable Takes a Purse. Jacksonville. Via., February 1. The colors of George 1. Cliiiui, a wealthy Kentucky mine owner, were conspicuous at Moucrief 1ark this afternoon. Jim Knight carried them to victory in the two-year-old race. Star lllue beat a good baud of sprinters in the Miami Selling Stakes. Sou finished third in the fifth race and lrincelike was beaten a neck in Ihe closing dash by Ta Nun Da. Joe Knights victory came after a stirring contest with Efficiency, in which lie beat the latter a neck. Efficiency, coupled with Elsewhere as the R. D. Williams entry, was plunged on and went to the post at odds-on The former was touted as the best juvenile in the Williams stable, but Joe Knight easily came from ltchhid and beat her. Star Blue ran a sensational race in the Miami Stakes, which was n dash of three-quarters of a mile. A fast lot of horses went 1o the post in this race, including among others, I.ady Irnia, Ren Double, Rye Straw and Dauficld. When the break came. Star Rlue stumbled anil almost fell and in the early stages was a distant trailer, being almost a dozen lengths hack of his company. Rounding the far turn, he moved up with a, sensational rush and, coining to the outside in the homestretch, wore down the tiring leaders and beat l.ady Iriua a head in a driving finish. Star Rlue was timed separately in 1:11. ll-niatehed lields went to the iwst in all of the six races, and interesting contests resulted. Two favorites won, the successful choices being Casque and Star Rlue. The Schorr stable scored its first victory in some time when Casque, beat a shifty lot of platers. He came frmi behind in the stretch and, after disposing of Sou. lasted to lcat Oakhurst a neck. .Milton Rates, half owner of Milton R., arrived from Lexington this morning and will remain for a couple of weeks before returning to Kentucky. G. E. Ridge, a local man, embarked In the racing business today by purchasing Vivian R. and Garden of Hoses from Jo in Iloffinan. .Tim. iHiuwtt of Guttenherg, who raced the good plater Eclipse on the New Jersey tracks in the old days, was air arrival last night. Among the guests attending, the recent annual dinner of the Jaksonville Driving Club was H. D. Rrown, vice-president and general manager of the Florida Live Stock and Agricultural State Fair Association, through whose courtesy in placing Mon-crief 1ark at their disposal local horsemen were enabled last summer to hold their matinee races. Mr. Rrown addressed the gathering and told what the association of which he is general manager in-landed doing in the near future and of the probable changes to be made as to race meetings to be held in this city if racing should be permitted after this season. Among the most important of the things mentioned was the giving of a state fair, the expense of which would be borne by the association. Incidental to the state fair Mr. Rrown said that he would give a race meeting for harness horses following the grand circuit meeting at Lexington, ly.. with valuable stakes. Mr. ISvown said with regard to the running race meeting that he had about come to the conclusion that the meetings of last winter and this are too long, and that in future it was probable Jacksonville would have the runners only for sixty days, when they would then go to Havana, where it is expected the scene will shift if present plans are carried to maturity. ltecent work-outs at Moncricf.
