SPORTSMEN TO ORGANIZE. Xew York. February 1. Plans for the formation of a Sportsmens League will be acted upon at a dinner of 500 leading siiortsmeii in the Waldorf February 15. The object of the league will be similar to the one in England the combatting of malicious attacks against sports of -all kinds. In this country the turf has 1een the victim of many hard blows. These attacks the friends of racing have considered unwarranted, and knowing that the friends of Sunday baseball and the admirers of hunting have been the victims of similar crusades, the sportsmen of the United States have considered the proposition to combine for mutual protection. This is he object of the dinner to bring together the men who are willing to throw aside ail individual tastes for a particular branch of sport and support the whole edifice of sport. August Belmont is to preside as toastmaster. An effort is 1eing made to have rcpro-seutatves of the Jockey Club of England at the guests table.
