OAKLAND MEETING TO END FEBRUARY 15. Governor Johnson Affixes Signature to Walker-Young Bill One Minute After Receiving It. San Francisco, Cal.. February 1. Rack Ray, starting for the first time, proved to be a good thing in the second race at Oakland today. It was a race for maiden three-year-olds and there was a rush to lot on the son of Rubicon. Ho won easily from Gyptis and Hand Satchel. Light showers fell during the day and the track was heavy and holding. Favorites did not figure prominently. J. Mclntyrc was in the limelight by winning with Harry Stanhope and Matador. Governor Johnson lost n time in approving the Walker-Young anti-betting bill, which was passed by the Assembly at Sacramento Monday. He affixed his signature to the measure one minute after the bill was presented to him last evening and it will become effective February 15. Secretary Percy W. Treat of the Xew California Jockey Club today silenced the rcort that the Oakland meeting would be continued with betting eliminated by declaring that in view of the adverse legislation, the track would be closed February 15. Most of the horses now quartered here will be shipped to Juarez, Mcx. Some of the stables will start eastward, to be on hand for the opening of the metropolitan season, while a few owners have arranged to sell their horses at auction.
