NEW TRACK FOB, THE WEST WORK BEGINS ON MODERN RACING PLANT NEAR SALT LAKE CITY. H. I. Wilson Prime Mover in Organization of Influential Citizens of Utah Interested in Venture Meeting of 40 Days Arranged to Begin May 30. Salt Lake City, Utah, April II. I. Wilson, president and manager of the racing organizations that have made, a signal success of racing at Butte and Anaconda. Mont, has organized a local racing association under whose auspices a forty-days meeting will be given at a new mile track at Lagoon Park, distant a few miles from this city, beginning May 30 next. The work of constructing the new track began today and will be rushed to completion by the time set for the opening. The Lagoon course will be beautifully located on a tract of 10U acres just purchased by its pro-motors about half way between Salt Lake City and Ogden, and will be convenient of access from both of these places. The time required for the journey to the new track from the heart of Salt Lake City will b;; but twenty minutes. The building of the Lagoon track will permit Mr. Wilson and his associates to offer horsemen an attractive and compact circuit of about ninety days of rnciug on mile tracks in the inter-mountain region. The schedule of dates selected for the new course will conveniently precede those for Uutte and Anaconda, soon to be officially announced. The stabling accommodations of the new course will consist of ."00 stalls, and more if necessary. Pending their construction. Mr. Wilson has made arrangements with the management of the Fair Grounds in this city to accommodate all horsemen who may wish to ship here at once. Simon Bamberger, former United States senator from Utah and at present president and general manager of the Salt Lake aud Ogden Railroad, is tiuancially interested in the new organization and will serve as its president. Associated with hlmi besides Mr. Wilson, are some of the best known and jntluential citizens of Utah. The total investment .will. be. only 00,000,. but the plant will be amply adequate and strictly modern. Practically no grading will be necessary. For the special accommodation of horsemen, the Oregon Short Line will construct a short spur from its maiu line to the new course so that horses snipped from distant iwints may be unloaded at the track gates. Martin Nathanson. who has been in Chica"n since the close of the Oakland meeting, with which he was otlieinlly connected as programmer. Iiandicapper, clerk of the course and steward, will proceed to Salt Lake City shortly to take up tin; duties of his new position there. Mr. Nathanson announced yesterday that dates had been selected for the Montana meetings this season as follows: P.utte July ltf to August 22 CIO days. Anaconda August 25 to September . 14 days. This, in conjunction with the new track at Salt Lake City, will provide S4 days of practically continuous racing for the horsemen that may decide to patronize the circuit which plays an important part hi western racing. The chances are that tliese meetings will be more generally patronized this year than ever before and that they will consequently be invested with greater importance than ever.
