NEWMARKET CRAVEN MEETING AT HAND. Over In England the week just ended was taken up with racing of minor importance at Warwick Derby and Alexandra Park, but a meetlng of higher stauding will begin today with the opening of the Newmarket Craven meeting of three days. This is annually -the first of the series of meetings at headquarters- and is always expected to forecast something concerning Two Thousand and Derby possibilities. Last year, for instance, Neil Gow made his first appearance as a two-year-old in the Craven Stakes and by reason of easily defeating Whisk Bioom and Tressady at once became a linn favorite for the Two Thousand Guineas and also the -winner when tile day for the decisiou of that great race arrived, defeating Leinberg by a head, with Whisk Broom a good third. These points of interest for Americans in the forthcoming Craven meeting iu nominations of American-bred and owned horses to several of the closed events to lc decided. The principal event of the first day is the Fifty-Second Newmarket Biennial Stakes, for three-year-olds, over tlio Rowley Mile. .Mr. Whitneys All Gold, which raced last as the Persimmon Dame dOr colt, is in this and so are sufli good two-year-olds of last year as Lord Derbys Oliver Goldsmith. Lord Falmouths splendid filly. Alice, and Sir A. Baileys Dark Simon. Charles Carrolls chestnut filly, by Meddler Ballautrae, and H. P. Whitneys chestnut geldiug, by Hamburg or Burgomaster Monodour, and chestnut gelding, by Burgomaster Urania, are in the Ashley Plate, for two-year-olds, which will 1m; run at five furlongs the samo day. The Column Produce Stakes, for three-year-olds, at a mile, is the chief race of the second day. No American is in this, but the Derby candidates, Cyllius and St. Anton, are among its entries. In the Granby Plate, for two-year-olds, at five fur-loiigs, ar. Charles Carrolls Meddler Ballantrae filly and Meddler Reina iiily, II. De C. Forbes Hudson Lowe, by Meddler Heartache and II. P. Whitneys Hamburg-Eugenia Burcli colt and Hamburg or Burgomaster Monadour gelding, Mr. J. R. Keoncs. Runnyniede. Mr. Whitneys Hardyburg and Pique Dame and Mr. Wlnans The Spy are In the Wood Ditton Stakes, for three-year-olds, at a mile. The Fifty-first Newmarket Biennial and the Craven Stakes are the big races of the third and last dav. The Newmarket Biennial is at a mile and a half aud lias such good ones as Winkipop, Decision, Willonvx and Sanctuary in its entries. Mr. Carrolls Troubled Waters and Lord Ellesmcres Kensington are eligi-bles, but have scant chance. The Craven Stakes is for three-year-olds and is run over the Rowley Mile. Charles Carrolls Night .Rider and Crimson Rambler. L. Waterbury! Alster Cress and Mr. Whitnevs Hardyburg and All Gold are engaged, as also are such formidable opponents as Seaforth, Castellinc, King William. Phryxus. Desmond Cocking Bell colt. St. Girous, San Nicholas, Sunstar and other cracks of last years racing. Seaforth will probablv make his 1011 debut in this race. Friday and Saturday, the last two days of the week, are devoted to-the Ncwbnrv Spring meeting. -The ,000 Grecnham Stakes, for three-year-olds, at a mile, will be run Friday. St. Nat, generally held to-be tho best two-year-old of last year, mav make his first start in 1011 hero. Seaforth. Sport v". Phryxus, Romeo. Irish King. Wrinkles and St. Anton are other good ones eligible to start. No Americans are engaged, but iu the Beekhauipton Two-Year-Old Plate, to be run the same day. Charles Carrolls two Meddler fillies, previously referred to. and J B. Joels bay filly, by Meddler Sloe, and chestnut fillr, by .Meddler Suisun. The Spring Maiden Stakes, io be run Saturday, is for three-year-olds, at a mile, and anions its entries are A. Belmonts Relfrv, Reid Walkers Adamite, Mr. Whitneys Hardyburg and Pique Dame aud L.
