REDUCES CANADIAN RECORD NAUSHON RUNS MILE IN FAST TIME OF 1:37% AT BLUE BONNETS. Sterling: Performance of R. T. Wilsons Son of Yankee and Royal Gun Leads Horsemen to Proclaim Him Champion of His Age. Montioa], Que.. .Tuup 7. — The making of now track records is getting ti be a daily occurrence at Blue Hi.im.lN. In the tliinl racf this afternoon. R. T. W Unas Naushon ran a mile in 1:37ft, which repre Mated a new Canadian record far the distance, and a wonderful performance over any track. Naushon was ridden by G. Archibald and followed Zeus and The Nigger to the stretch turn, where he moved up on the outside and at the end drew away into a lead of a length and a half. He won with comparative ease and was easily superior to his opponents. The early pace in the race was not i-spccially fast and it was not until the real racing began that Naushon loomed as a dangerous factor. The track at Blue Bonnets this afternoon was not as fast as when Whist ran his mile in 1:38 and on his showing this afternoon Xaushon is hailed as the champion of his age. A few days ago Mr. Hildreth. when asked to price Zeus, placed a valuation of 0,000 ou the colt and if he is worth that amount, it is considered that Xaushon is worth much more. The fractional lime of todays race was 24j . 4.SA. 1:12?. 1:37$. The particular feature of the program was the Wilson Challenge tup Steeplechase over the two and a half miles course. The conditions called for Canadian owned horses and there were live starters. Expansionist, the favorite, bolted at the fourth fence and Steve Lane, ■■other starter, was the victim of a rather poor ride. The winner turned up In Stalker, which beat Steve Lane half a length. Stalker was hacked from 12 to 4 to 1 and a killing of considerable proportions was made over his victory. S. C. Hildreth recouped some of his losses on Zeus when Pan! tier won the sixth race, which was for two year olds. He ran in improved form. lieing a forward contender from the start aud beat the favorite. Key. a length In a driving linish. William P. Kiggs. who has been acting as one a* of the stewards at Blue Bonnets, left tonight for Xew York. Mr. Biggs will be one of the officials for the meeting of the United Hunts lo be given at Belmont Park Terminal. Maltble, one of the starters in the third race, appeared to bo la splendid condition going to the post, but broke down in his •"good" leg during the race. Trainer John Powers looked for Maltbie to run a sparkling race and jockey Gross reported that the horse was only cantering at the time of the mishap. M. Daly has purchased the two-year-old Cbocoraa from K. T. Wilson and will rest the colt until fall, thoeorua is a fast colt, but is handicapped by a pair of bad-looking legs. Mr. Daly has hope* of improving his underpinning, hence his decision to real him until fall. Earl Grey was a visitor at Blue Bonnets this after-noou. togetln r with Iord Lesealles and Lady Grey. T. R. Condrnn has decided to send his good three-year-old. The Xigger. to Hamilton to run in the Derby. Flanima and several of the other horses in Hie stable will remain at Blue Bonnets until fall. Neal Fellows and Bad McMahon were among the new arrivals. Beth joined the ranks of the layers doing business here. Showers followed the races this afternoon, but what little rain fell will improve rather than hurt the going.
