Browns New Track at Laurel If Maryland Jockey Club Gives Its Assent. New York, August 21. At a meeting of the stew-, ards of the Jockey Cluli August Belmont, F. K. Sturgis, II. K. Knapp, Andrew Miller and Schuyler L. Parsons present approval was granted the Jamestown Jockey Club, of Norkolk, Aa., to conduct a race meeting from October 25 to November 18, Inclusive, with the privilege of extending for tea days after November IS if conditions warrant. Appointment of the following officials for the nieejiuj was approved: Presiding Judge, H. C. Cole; starter. Mars Cassldy: elerk of the scales, J. II. Smith; patrol judge. Herman P. Conkliug. Frank J. Bryau was appointed steward to represent tho Jockey Club at the meeting. The assistant secretary presented an application from II. D. Brown, general manager of the Maryland State Fair, Laurel, Md., asking for the approval of the stewards of the Jockey Club for a race meeting at Laurel, Md.. from October 2 to October 31. and letter from H. 1. Brown and Joseph A. Murphy, stating that they had conferred with Thomas Clyde, of the Maryland Jockey Club, and that Mr. Clyde had stated to them that tho Maryland Jockey Club had no objection to the conflict of racing dates. The assistant secretary was Instructed to advise Mr. Brown that the approval of the stewards of the Jockey Club would bo granted the Maryland State Fair to conduct a race meeting; from October 2- to Oetolier 31, provided he will furnish the stewards with a written statement from the Maryland Jockey Club that they have no objection to the conflict of dates. The assistant secretary presented a letter from John Marchall. secretary of the South Carolina. Jockey Club, Charleston. S. C. stating that they wished to give a race meeting next winter at Charleston, S. C. and that, they desired the good will of the Jockey- Club, hut would not ask the stewards of the Jockey Club to approve their racing dates. The assistant secretary Was instructed to advise Mr. Marshall that the rules necessitated that they apply for the sanction of tho stewards of the Jockey Club, and that if they do so their communication will receive due consideration. Officials for the fall meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club were approved as follows: Judges. W. P. RIggs and E. C. Smith: starter, A. B. Dade; handicapper, F. J. Bryan; clerk of tho scales. Herman P. Conkliug: stewards to represent the Jockey Club, F. J. Bryan. The application of Arthur Carter, ruled off tha turf in 190S. for reinstatement was denied. The assistant secretary presented a receipt froni jockey George AV. Archibald to R. V. Carman, and a letter of complaint against Archibald from It. F. Carman; also a letter from jockey Archibald, as to above complaint. The assistant secretary was instructed to write Mr. Carman that from the correspondence before them in relation to jockey Archibald tiie matter was not sufficiently clear for the stewards to act, but that they will be glad to glvo .Air. Carman an opportunity to appear before theiu at their next meeting. The assistant secretary presented a complaint from E. Corrigan that M. J. Daly had sold him a contract on jockey Arthur AArispen on May 17. 1910, and had again sold this contract to W. C. Daly in April 11. 1911. Mr. Corrigan requested that AVrispen be ordered to report to him, and further requested that M. J. Daly be punished for making dual transfers of this contract. The assistant secretary wast instructed to advise Mr. Corrigau that the stewards of tho Jockey Club could only recognize tho contract and transfers of same which were tiled with tho office of the Jockey Club, but would take up tho penalty to bo imposed upon M. J. Daly at a later date. The assistant secretary presented a complaint from Royal E. T. Riggs. attorney at law. the guardian of George Aan Benschoten. apprenticed to trainer Max Hirseh. requesting that the contract held by trainer Hirseh lie cancelled. The assistant secretary was instructed to request Mr. Riggs to furnish a complete brief and all evidence in this case.
