ANACONDA GRAND STAND BURNED. Butte. Mont.. August 21. The entire plant of the Anaconda Jockey Club, with the exception of the fences and stables, was burned to the ground Saturday night. It was at first thought that the meeting which was scheduled to open next Friday would have to be abandoned, but the directors have decided to build a temporary stand and betting ring at once. A featureless card provided good racing for one of the best Monday crowds of the meeting. The winners were hard to guess. Two of the public choicea scored and the layers had much the better of tha daily argument. H. I. Wilson announced today that notwithstanding the burning of the grandstand, betting ring and paddock at Anaconda Saturday night, the meeting at that place would run as scheduled. A large forcu of men working night and day will be able to build a temporary stand, ring and paddock in time for the opening on Friday next. Sixteen, favorite for the second race, was excused by the judges on account of a severe attack of colic shortly after the betting was posted aud twenty minutes was allowed for the making of a new book in consequence thereof. Joekeys Hopkins and Rosen were suspended for a week by starter Ihvyer for disobedience at tho barrier in the second and third races. Jockey Rooney was lined for the same offense in the third race.
