DR. TYREE THINKS HE HAS A GOOD ONE. AAashingtou and Baltimore lovers of racing may be treated to an interesting special race not on the program at the coming autumn meeting of the Maryland Jockey Club at Pimlico, which opens October 7. If this race occurs it will be of peculiar Interest to AVashlngton people, for tho persons interested are well known here. Coming down on the train from Fort Erie, where a race meeting ended recently, were Dr. -J. S. Tyrce and "Billy"- Garth, probably the best known trainer of thoroughbreds in Airginia. "Billy" has been very successful this season with his two-year-olds and has shown some handy young racers. His horses have won more than thirty races in Canada and naturally the big Virginian is somewhat elated over his success. It was lie, too, who sold what is regarded by horsemen as tho best two-year-old of the season in Canada, a youngster called Puggins. by Fatherless. Garth and Tyree got to discussing the merits of the two-year-olds and the former bantoringly suggested that Dr. Tyrce didnt have any horse in his stable that. could beat one of his. although the doctor showed two of the best of the younger division at Pimlico in Yorkshire Boy and Astrologer. "Bet you ,000 that I have a two-year-old in my stable that has never started that can heat any horse you have," exclaimed Dr. Tyree. "Youre on," said Mr. Garth. Thereupon the two drew their checks and placed them in the hands of a stakeholder. It was agreed that the special race should be run at the Baltimore track some time during the autumn meeting. Dr. Tyree would not disclose the name of his racer, but he asserted with confidence tbat the colt can beat any two-year-old seen this season. Washington Post.
