ASSURES RACING AT DENVER GOVERNOR AMMONS OF COLORADO APPOINTS STATE RACING COMMISSION. Organization to Govern Sport in That State Created in Accordance with Bill Passed by Legislature at Last Session. Denver, Colo., December 3. Governor Ammons appointed a state racing commission at noon today. The members are J. A. Burnett, of Denver, Dr. A. P. Drew of Grand Junction, J. L. Beaman of Pueblo, D. L. Silver of Lamar, and M. J. Dunleavy of Denver. Tile appointments were in fulfillment of the bill passed by the legislature last spring legalizing horse racing in the state. It permits races to ie held at siate and county fairs, live stock shows and agricultural exhibits and also allows the association managing the races to contribute purses and prizes for the winners. None but owners of the horses participating in the races are allowed to receive any pecuniary returns from any of the purses or prizes. The commission will formulate rules and regulations for all races, in addition to Issuing licenses. It also has the power to revoke any racing license upon cause. The bill permits racing only between the mouths of April and December. The commissioners are appointed for one, two, three, four and five years each and will serve without pay. They are permitted to appoint a secretary at an annual salary of 00. It was understood in the capital building this morning that a Butte, Mont., horseman Is here arranging to construct a race course to cost about 0.CO0 in the vicinity of Lakeside, providing that he is assured he will receive the necessary protection from the commission.
