RACING GOSSIP FROM THE EAST. New York, December 3. II. C. Ilallenbeck lias no yearlings at his New Jersey farm. The only yearling purchase made during the year was a brother 1o Hedge and he is still in Kentucky. The four-j ear-old daughter of Planudes and Partridge was a useful racer in the Hallenlicck colors and it was only because the yearling was her brother that the purchase was made. Trainer Frank M. Taylor expects that Mr. IIallcnlcck would inake some purchases before the ojening of the 1014 season. The secret of Uncle Muiis failure to make good during the recent racing season is cut. While lie was racing lie had a badly diseased foot and his trouble was not discovered until late in the fall. A plater found that one of his feet was in rather bad condition and a more, careful examination revealed that the horse was in a condition that made it remarkable that he raced at all. The diseased portion was cut away and the application of a blister to the coronet is working a rapid recovery. Uncle Mun, with the other Ilallenbeck horses, is quartered at the recently acquired rami near Eaton-town. N. J., and traliier Taylor reports that he is rapidly coming around. Since going into retirement he has broadened and grown. Before he was sent to the races last spring Uncle Mun had shown better trials than any youngster on Ixing Island, but he was never able to race up to that promise. Now that his Infirmity is known It is easy to excuse his showing. Vi E. Schaumbcrg, secretary of the Coney Island Jockev Club, was busily engaged yesterday in sending out entry blanks for the Futurity of 191G. The conditions are built along the same lines as the Futuritv of 1913-14 and 15. except that the second horse is to receive about 00 more than in those races. It is still to lie a six-furlongs dash, for two-year-olds, and has an added value of ,000. A moderate estimate of the value is fixed at 0,C00. which, will bring it back to something like the old davs of its running. The second horse is to receive 00 of the added money and two-thirds of the starting fees; the third. S300 of the added mo:iy and one-third of the starting fees. Of the total amount. ,750 Is to go to the breeders. The breeder of the winner is to receive ,000; of tin second horse. 00, and of the third horse. 50. Entries for tills race are to close .liinunry 2. and Mr. Schaumberg expects at least 700 nominations. This will be an increase of almost 200 over those received for the. Futurity of 1015. which was closed last January. Joseph E. Davis, who is wintering his horses at Beuniug. in the cure of Matt Brady, has a promising two vear-old lilly that he will probably point for the Harbor Hill Steeplechase of 1014. She is a bay daughter of Ossary and Angleta that was par-chased at the sale of the late W. OB. Macdonoughs Ormondale lot sold by the Powers-Hunter Company. She has shown some smart moves and Mr. Davis is sanguine that she will make good. She has been named Ossagieta. The other horses in the Davis string are doing well and O Bear will In all likelihood be one of the best steeplechasers in the country next year. This sterling son of Sain ar.d Hanetta was seriously handicapped for a considerable part of the season by bad feet, but they have been cured and had grown out nicely before the end of the season. Barring accident, lie will come back to the races iu the spring better than ever. Fred Essen is another that will carry the Davis Colors hi 1014 of which great things are expeeted. This fellow was unreliable iu the field, but by experimenting in bitting. Mr. Davis has finally found an equipment that suits ids horse, and he has been going along excellently since his retirement to winter quarters. Humility, though still 1ght Tor a jumper, has filled out somewhat sitici her retirement ror a winters rest and she promises to lie useful u 13J1, , i ; ; 1 : f 1 : . . : : . . . i 1 j I : 1 i . : I I J r I . t . t , - 5 . ; i ; . ,- i r 1 - t ,- t r . 1 s
