El Paso, Tex., December 23. A high wind blew over the Juarez course this afternoon. It was ladies day and the attendance was large. Favorites divided the card with horses at longer odds. Mimorioso easily defeated the good opposition he was meeting in the allowance race at six furlongs, which served as the feature of the day. The track was in good condition, but the high wind tended to make the time a trifle slow. Peter Grimm, which was selected as the public choice for the firth race, ran the most sensational race seen so far during this meeting. The start was a good one, but before the field had gone any distance, Peter Grimm was pinched out of forward contention and fell to the rear. On the far turn his chances of winning apieared hopeless. Jockey Neylon brought him up on the outside and, finally applied his whip vigorously, witli the result that he dashed to the leaders like a Hash. Drawing on even terms with Orba Smile fifty yards from the finish, he gamely gained the decision in the final stride. The crowd gathered at the track was surprised tins afternoon by a visit from the Juarez garrison of the constitutionalists, under the command of General Benavides, who put his cavalry through some war maneuvers for the benefit of a moving picture-concern. The tiring of rifles caused a commotion among those who had not been apprised of the affair. Clinton Hill, an employe of the stable of J Livingston, died this morning at a local hosoltal from diabetes. His home was at Smiths Station, Miss. The body will be buried here. Jockey J. McCain; was suspended for ten days bv starter Cassidy for disobedience at the barrier in the third race. The stewards suspended jockey Teahan for five days for rough riding in the first race.
