DEATH OF A GREAT RACE HORSE. The well-known stallion, Zinfandel, the property of Lord Howard de Waldcu, dropped dead on Saturday, Februarv 21, at the Snailwell Stud larm, Newmarket, England. Foaled fourteen years ago, ho was by the late Kin" Edwards Persimmon Medora, a Bend Or mare. He was bred by Col. Harry McCalmont, and amon-st the important races he won as a three-year-old were the Manchester Cup, Ascot Gold Vase and Brighton Cup. At the same age he failed by only tbre- parts of a length to give the aged Grey Tick 3 pounds in a field of 20 for the Cesarewitch. s a four-year-old he won the Coronation Cup, beating Sceptre and Rock Sand at even weights, md also accounted for the Jockey Club Cup, in which he defeated Bachelors Button. Zinfandel ran twice as a five-year-old, winning the Ascot Gold Cup and lie was second to Pretty Polly in the Coronation Cup. He won over 0,000 in stakes. He was sent to the stud in 1900, and among the horses to claim his paternity were Merry Maiden, The Tabard, Zoetrope, Syndicalism and Beethoven. Zinfandel was, without doubt, the best horse of the many Lord Howard de Walden has owned.
