JOHN SANFORD MAY PURCHASE ROAHER Louisville Ky May 11 John Sanford has made a big offer for Andrew Millers great gelding Koamcr Just what price he has named has not been made public but the rumor is current that the noted fouryearold may change hands l cfore lie starts iu the Clark Handicap at the Doivns next Saturday Horsemen think that the tender he has made for IJoamer is more money than any fouryearold ruuuing gelding ever sold for at either public or private sale in this country countryNo No little interest centers in the Bashford Manor Stakes to be run tomorrow at Churchill Downs the event with its 2000 in added money having this year seventyone entries including many of the most valuable twoyearolds now in training here This event while first being run in 1902 is really the successor of the once famous Alexander Stakes which was first run at the Downs at the first meeting held here in the spring of 1875 It was then a stake with only 250 as added money and its first winner was Vagrant which noted gelding won the Kentucky Derby the following year beat ¬ ing among other celebrated performers P Loril lards great gelding Parole Harry Hill ran second in the first Alexander Stakes aud Kuss Butler finished third For years after many famous horses ran and won this event at the Downs one of the stars that captured it being the immortal Hindoo HindooSince Since the present Bashford Manor Stakes has been In existence it has only been captured by one youngster that later oil won the Kentucky Derby that being Worth which won the race in 1911 Joe Morris which captured the event in 1909 ran second in the Kentucky Derby the following year One of the greatest winners of the Bashford Manor Stakes was George C Ben ¬ nett which took tlte race in 1905 Ho had no chance to run in the Derby as he died in the late fall of his twoyearold form It was in this race iu 1913 that Little Nephew defeated Old Kosebud the Kentucky Derby winner of 1914 this being one of the only two times iu his twoyear old racing that the latter ever suffered a beat ¬ ing the other occasion being at Lexington when he and Little Nephew met for the first time He later on took aipple revenge on Grubers gelding at Douglas Park when he beat him in three of the most remarkable fiveeighths races ever ruu by twoyearolds the time being 5S uS 58 58T T I Hayes is going slow in his preparation1 of Donerail the Kentucky Derby winner of 1911 and he announced a few days since that he would make no more effort to get the son of McGee ready for racing this year until near the last of the Latpnia summer meeting He seems to think that the horse did not do well in early racing last year and as a result concluded he would try different tactics this year and look for him to then more than pay his way iii midsummer and fall racing Bodily Donerail never looked better than he does now iii his training quarters at Douglas Park and Hayes is confident that by going slow with him he will have a successful fiveyearold career careerF F J Ious has found It necessary to again send the old campaigner John Furlong to his blue grass farm in Tennessee as the geldings injured tendons recently began to trouble him again It is now his Intention to let John Furlong rest up until next year and then he will try once more to race him Next year he will be nine years old and if he then fails to stand training he will become a pensioner oh the Poiis breeding farm for life lifePons Pons has nine yearlings and he already has eight sucklings and six more mares yet to foal Of the sucklings already dropped four are colts and the other four fillies Two of the eight head are by Judge Wright and the other six are by Tony lionero Pens now has in training one two yearold by the latter horse that is a handsome brown filly Boneros First which is out of the mare Merces by Atlicling He made no early stake engagements for this filly but entered her in the Spring Trial Stakes to be nm at Douglas Park June 5 and she is also eligible to the Cllp etta Stakes and Cincinnati Trophy at Latonla She will however probably start in a purse dur ¬ ing the Churchill Downs meeting as a few days ago she worked a half mile in 48 covering the first quarter in 23 He lClicves she is a bright racing prosi ect and is already talking about her as a prospective Kentucky Oaks winner in 1910 1910George George C Bennetts famous mare Dishabille has a foal this season by the Futurity winner Oriuon dale and has been bred back to that horse She has no yearling this vear having slipped twins by Trap Kock in 1914 Dishabille has so far had three foals old enough to race The first was Negligee and the next Jack Carey now a three yearold arid a winner last year and this She has a twoyearold named Bright Goodhar which is now in training in the stable of K It Brad ¬ ley and is an eligible to the Bashford Manor Stakes and other events this spring and summer on the Kentucky tracks Some day Dishabille may throw a great horse as she was a sterling good racer and the experts can pick 116 flaws in her pedigree Bennett has faith in her she being the one of all the noted thoroughbreds ho has owned that he always intends to retain the owner ¬ ship of lie has had several times fancy offers for her herGeorge George B Ott the Lexington turfman has it yearling bay cult by Peep oDay Big Goose by Tithouus the latter mare being dam of the four winners Golden Egg Frank Patton Helen Uiy bold and The Gander also the twoyearold filly Miss Klein now in J W Schorrs stable He has two sucklings both by Peep oDay and Iwtli fillies One is out of Big Goose and the other out of Meddesome She The latter mare Is the dam of Foundation Tony W Margaret S and Disturber Ott has sent l otli of these mares back lo bo mated to Peep oDay again this season On imount of other business engagements he has about included lo dispose of nil his thoroughbred stock in the near future He however will only endeavor to dlspo oC them at private wile His yearling colt as well as both his suckling fillies ir eligible to the Breeders Futurity Stakes of 101017
