RICH SPANISH RACE NEXT YEAR. Whatever may In- the prospects of racing in this count rv. racing is liound to continue in other parts of the world, and to increase just in proporti.ni to our failure to hold on. In a day or so there will be advertised a big stake to be run iu Spain. It will In- worth 4.0 K sovereigns and is for three-year-olds. French entries will, as I understand, be iniimssiblc. as thev would not he allowed t leave France, and it is cl.-ar to me that there will be a tine oppor-tunitv to win this stake if anyone has a good two-voar-old colt here and takes his chance. The race will be run in Easter week next year, and just the sort of miinial to win it would be Star Hawk, which is not well engaged in Ellgland: but Mr. Joel has sold him. and so there is no use thinking of hiin. Gratian would be another suitable Colt. It seems a rather big adventure to take a colt to Spain to run. but it is by no means such a voyage as going from New Zealand to Australia, and many great winners have done that successfully. Moreover, the trans|M.rt on a Royal Mail lKiat to Vigo or Lislioii would he comfortable and quite easy. Any owner in starch of a new c.| crionco will do well to ron-sidei- this idea, for a 4. U 0 sovereigns stake will be well worth winning next year. As to France. 1 note that they will now allow yearlings to be exported from there to any of the allied countries or to America, and this will do no small good to French breeders, who have hitherto been restricted to their hi.iiie market alone. It is. however, only until the end of Hie ea r lhat they will be able to sell, and unless I here is racirg in Franc iiexl M-ar our French friends will be in evil case. I see in IMl connection that Hie French authorities are advertising stakes lor m-it Jt-ar, apparently with 3 every hope that they will be able to resume racing, • hut that is a question which is on ilie laps of the e go«[s. ami nie.iinviiile this race in Spain may be regarded as a certainty. — "The Special Commissioner" in London Sjiortsnian.
