BEDUCING AUSTRALIAN STAKE VALUES. The announcement that the Australian Jockey Club hid decided to reduce the value of some of the races to lie run at the autumn meeting did not come as a surprise. So far this season the gate and other receipts have been entirely satisfactory, but the club is giving its profits during the war to partiotic funds, and is wise in assuring itself against any falling off in its future returns by reducing the value of its stakes, though not to any marked extent. If. through liberality to owners, the clubs profits at the end of the season did not exceed the 0,000 contribution to which it is already hound, there would be many carpers, and at Randwick, where there is an excellent betting market, the difference of a hundred or so in the value of a prize is not a really serious matter when the added money for any flat race is still not less than ,500. The added money for 1914 was 40,-500: last year. 50,750; and this year 40,000 so that owners are still well catered for. — Pilot in Sydney Referee.
