PLATERS DAY AT LATONIA AFTERNOON GIVEN OVER TO THE SLOWER RACERS, WITH INTERESTING RACING. Trusty Wins and Gains a New Owner — Bourbon Lass Takes a Race — About All the Latonia Three-Year-olds Coming to Hawthorne. Cincinnati. O.. .Tune 20. — Todays ordinary card at Latonia was devoid of any aaBadal feature and brought into contest many of the ixxirer grade of i racers, and. likewise, contributed many upsets. Considering the off-day conditions, a surprisingly i large crowd was on hand and extracted wholesome enjoyment out of some of the closely contested finishes. The biggest upset of the afternoon and. likewise a form somersault, was the victory of Yallaha over Howdy Howdy. The winner displayed high speed from the outset and led throughout. She paid her few backers handsome returns on their investment. After many trials R. J. Mackenzies Trusty finally managed to emerge from the maiden class when he won the opener easily from Rhyme and Bluehannock. After the finish H. Kink bid him up from an entered price of 00 to ,400 and became his owner. The second race introduced a band of ordinaary ones with Langhorne ruling the favorite. Whatever chance he had was ruined at the start, for lie was among the stragglers to leave the barrier. J. C. Welch was returned the winner over Shine and Hooker Hill. A fairly good band of youngsters met in the fourth race and Gallaher Hros. Hourhon Lass showed her heels to the others from the start and won with utmost ease. Lingden, the choice of the race, suffered from interference on the first turn. Uncle Hart and Rusy Joe were favored for the fiftli race and they had the finish between them, Rlanchita accounting for third money. Secretary .Martin Nathanson met with highly gratifying results in his first day of missionary work in the interest of the Illinois Jockey Club. Owners here were keen to make reservations for stall room after Mr. Nuthanson had outlined the plans for the coming meeting. The stakes also absorbed attention. particularly the American Derby. All the star three-year-olds in these parts, including Franklin. Dodge. Dick Williams. Rig Smoke, Col. Vennie, Floiiro, Votary and others. will be among the entries. From present indications there will be nearly 400 horses available from this loc.ility for the Chicago meeting. Mr. Nathan-son will remain here several days before departing east for a visit to the tracks there in the interest of Hawthorne. , E. H. Klkins contemplates shipping his string of racers to Fort Brie shortly and will take J. O. and G. H. Keenes filly Yermila with him. to be I turned over to ;. II. Keenc, who is campaigning the Keene racers in Canada. Fred Auerbach, formerly general manager of the Charleston race track, was among the visitors. He intimated that there is a possibility of a resumption of racing in Jacksonville, Fla., in another r year. Latonia work-outs Sunday, with the track fast, were: Alex Getz -Half mile in 51.
