SHERIFF BRADLEY, OWNER AND BREEDER. Lexington. Ky., June 26. — It would be hard to recall a period win n Fayette County hud u sheriff who was not fond of the sport of horse raeiug, and it is a matter of record that the majority of them for the past half century have been breeders of thoroughbred horses. Major P.. G. Thomas was a noted breeder who raced many good horses. Iew P. Tarleton was a breeder and a racing official as well. Edward Frazer still is a breeder. Likewise Dan W. Scott. Mayor James C. Rogers until recently had a few mares and nearly every year he has a horse or two running for his account, though .ill-it now he is without one. Sheriff Tom C. Brail-ley, the present efficient official, owns the stallion Boarcatchcr and several broodmares, yearlings and foals in partnership with Andrew Howinan. one of his deputies, who also is the owner of a fine farm on the Versailles pike. Bradley, too. is interesied with William Wallace iu the ownership of that good three-year-old Big Smoke. The mares owned by Messrs. Bradley and Bowman are Fulfil, mated this year with Hessian; Or-sina. which recently went to Uncles court: Yec-nay. bred to Jim Gaffiiey: Oriole Dariou half-sister to Buck Uaactei to Duke of Ormonde; EUora, to Onnondale ; Kirstie and Loretta Gate, both bred to Hearca tcher. Their yearlings are: Hav colt by Ossary — Orsina dam of Ellison; black colt by Sain— Fulfil: chestnut colt by Beareatehor — Ixiretta Gale; bay filly by Plaudit -Oriole Darion. and brown filly half-sister to Lucille I. by Magneto — Annoyance. Their sucklings an-: Black colt by Star Shoot-Fulfil: bay colt by Duke of Ormonde — Yecnay; chestnut colt by Bearcatcher — Kirstie, and bay fillv by Onnondale — Ellora. They lost the mare Handshake when she foaled twins by Bearcatcher on April 15. and earlier iu the year Lady Augusta dam of Guide Post dropped dead iu her paddock. The only other mare on the place is Ethelda. She is the property of Polk Laffon. of Covington, and was mated with Sweep this year. There are eleven yearlings in this section by Beareatehor and ten of them are colts. The lone filly is owned by Edward Frazer and he says she is one of the finest he ever bred. The Bearcatcher colts are all good lookers.
