SHROVETIDE was cut off on the first turn and dropped back, then was nursed along until rounding the far turn, where he moved up rapidly and easily passed ALECTO in the homestretch. ALECTO took a long lead on the backstretch, but tired badly in the last quarter and probably was short. BIRDLAND was easily the best of the others. SIR JAMES was swerving through the last eighth. SEA BEACH followed the pacemaker closely until in the final eighth, then moved up and hung on gamely after disposing of ASTROLOGER. LADY MEXICAN began slowly, but worked her way up on 1 T the outside and finished with a rush. KOOTENAY finished fast and gamely on the inside. NATHAN R. ■ could never get up and ran a bad race for him. ASTROLOGER tired after setting the pace to the last it eighth. The winner was entered for 00; no bid. The latter, a good looker, ran a game race and it should improve him. PERUGINO ran in closest early pursuit and tired badly in the last quarter. CADENZA, from a slow beginning, was far back for the first half, then came wide when entering • the homestrecth, but finished with a rush and outstayed FOUNTAIN FAY. The latter was under slight restraint until right at the end. BEN QUINCE ran into the lead on the backstretch, but gave way when . challenged. SUPREME finished close up. Won driving; second and t third the same. GOLDEN BANTAM, after racing close up from the start, wore the leaders down in the homestretch and hung on gamely to win going away. BONDAGE began slowly, but worked -his way up on the outside and finished gaining on the leader. LYNETTE closed a great gap and finished with a rush. BLUE FOX also finished fast. ARRAVAN made up much ground from a poor 2 btart. SWIFT FOX and VALERIE WEST were contenders to the stretch, where both tired. !
