"WOODWARD, after being saved under restraint in the early running, came on the outside of the leaders in the homestretch and outstayed SAM McMEEKIN at the end. The latter went to the leader with a rush on the backstretch and responded gamely to punishment in the stretch, but tired in the closing strides. GALLOP showed the most early speed and made the pace fast, but tired in the linal eighth. FAIR COUNT was hard ridden through the linal half and ran an excellent race under his weight. The winner, entered for ,700, was hid up to ,505 and bought in. AMKKOSE was hard ridden in the early running, but could not get up nnd was not persevered with in the linal eighth. MR. SPECS ran well and was under pressure for the entire nice. LIBYAN SANDS raced gamely, but could never get up. PRESUMPTION was away badly and not persevered with. The winner, entered for ,000, was hid up to ,505 and bought in. SHORT GRASS began slowly, but moved up rapidly on the outside of the leaders on the far turn and, linishing fast and gamely under punishment, was going away at the end. ROAMER was saved under slight restraint in the early running and raced into the lead with a rush in the homestretch, but tired when challenged and was driving hard in the closing strides. SPUR raced extremely wide throughout, but closed up fast in the homestretch and finished resolutely. STROM BOLI ran a good race. DICK WILLIAMS was in close quarters on the far turn and ran well. FRIAR ROCK appeared to he laboring in the early running. SLUM HER II. pulled up lame. TRIAL BY JURY was pulled up in the linal quarter after setting a fast pace to the stretch. GOOD COUNSEL appeared to be sore when going to the post, but closed a big gap in the final half from a poor beginning. AHA HA and SONG OF AALLEY were eased up in the homestretch after showing speed.
