THORNCIIFFE HORSES WIN INCOG AND HAMPTON DAME SHOW THE BENEFIT OF W. McDANIELS TRAINING. King Neptune Easily Wins the Connaught Park Handicap F. Robinson Guides Four Winners and Will Ride a Whitney Colt in the Futurity. Ottawa. Out.. August 29. Will MeDaniel. who recently took over the Thorneliffe Stable horses sent, two winners to the post here this afternoon in the two-year-ohl Incog and the Canadian bred Hampton Dame. Both horses wen- ridden by F. Robinson and both won their races going away! Incog which is generally rated as tin; best filly of her age racing in Canada, showed a return to her good form this afternoon. She was saved behind the pacemaker until straightened out in the homestretch then raced into an easv lead and beat Waukong by three lengths. King Ne;tune proved an easy winner in the Con-nauglit Park Handicap, for which he ruled favorite. He made most of the pace, going to the front on the turn into the backstretch and leading for the remainder of the race. Grumpy, which beat King Neptune by a nose tho last time they met. was beaten a half dozen lengths by the winner today. Jockey F. Robinson leaves here Friday afternoon for New York. The lad has been engaged bv James Rowe to ride oiks of the Harry Pavne Whitney starters in the Futurity to be run at Belmont Park on Saturday. Robinson will return to Montreal on Sunday and report to the Stormont stables, lie rode four winners this afternoon. Four claims were filed after tins last race yesterday, two for Birka and two for St. Charleote. J. Lowenstein and M. Lowenstein had claims in for the mare, while W. Walker -and Sam Louis were after St. Chnrlcote. The Loweusteins got Birka and St. Chnrlcote went to S. Louis. A change was made in the staff of officials at Connaught Park this afternoon. Francis .1. Nelson assumed tho position of presiding steward, while Sheridan Clark took Mr. Nelsons place as presiding judge. The two-year-ohl Atwell got the lxstter of his rider this morning and galloped up and down the backstretch a couple of times. This is the youngster that Howard Oots refused several good offers for before lie left England. Atwell. although he has won but one race up here, has proved himself to be one of the best two-year-olds shown in Canada tli is year. Steeplechase jockey Harry Simpson has severed his connection with the G. W. Beardmore stable and will ride as a free lance for the remainder of tho racing season. The apprentice rider L. Lykes. at the conclusion of the Kenilworth meeting at Windsor, will probably report to William Stormont. The latter is negotiating for the contract that II. Neusteter holds en the lad. D. A. OMtara was an arrival from Montreal this morning. He reports that tins Bcdwell horses are still at tins Windsor track. Up to date Mr. Bed-well has been unable to secure a car to ship his stable to Maryland. It is likely that he will race his homes and those of Mr. O Meant at the Kenilworth meeting. D. Iliggins, David Nicholson and T. I. Phalen were visitors at Connaught Park. The first two came over from Montreal, while Mr. Phalen arrived from Toronto. Sun King and several other jumpers in the William Garth stable have arrived at Blue Bonnets from Saratoga. R. E. Watkins has announced his intention of shipping a stable of fifteen horses to Cuba for the coming winter meeting. T. P. Hayes is another horseman who has already decided to race at Oriental Park and i. II. Keene will send down a dozen in charge of A. Logan Denny.
