LEADING IRISH TURFMAN PASSES ON. The death of Mr. R. Hamilton Stuhber. D.L., took place at his residence at Dtirrow, Queens County, somewhat suddenly. He was a well-known figure on the principal Irish race courses up to a couple of years ago, when failing health compelled him to giro up attending the meetings, but he continued to support racing, and early this season won a couple of stakes with the two-year-old, Ossory, which however, tarnished his reputation at Bnl-dorle last week. He bred several useful horses, including Irish Chief, by Erla Mor out of Pursuit; Rex bv Lavono, Reina by Count. Schomberg, Swift Footsteps and Ossory. Irish Chief, which he sold to Mr. J. B. Joel for 4,000 pounds, proved a sud disappointment in England, but Reina won the Irish Oaks for Sir Ernest Cochrane. Pursuit, after paying her way on the turf, proved a valuable brood mare, producing, among others, the aforesaid Irish Chief and Ossory. and another mare Mr. Stub-ber bred was Dame dHonneur, by Gallinule. lie disposed or her to Major Frank Wise, for whom she produced Modubeagh. Mr. Stuhber succeeded his father as master of the Queens County Hounds, -which pack his son. Capt. Stuhber also hunted, as well as the Island Hounds, prior to the outbreak of the war.
