D0NNETTA AND ORBY EXCELLENT MATES. It is rather curious that so good and well-bred a mare as Donneta should have produced only moderate nerformors to such successful sires as Ayrshire, St. Frusquin and Cicero, while to Orby, which on his dams side strains back to unknown sources, she should in turn have thrown Diadumenos and Diadem. Diadumenos was a good winner indeed, among his victorious races being the Kempton Jubilee and the Liverpool Autumn Cup, while Diadem is entitled to rank as the best filly of the season, and for all we know might be better than Mr. Hultons excellent colt Knutsford. Donnetta herself is a bay, and it will not have escaped notice that both Diadumenos and Diadem follow their sire in being chestnuts. That, of course, may mean nothing, but the probability exists that Lord DAbernons good broodmare with her wealth of running blood may have been just suited by the outside strains in Orbys pedigree. She herself is a No. 2 mare, and her maternal grandsiro, Wenlock, represents No. 4. London Sportsman.
