LOUD FIT. HERBERT began fast,, but indulged DETRIMENT with the lead for the first eighth, then drew away into a long lead on the far turn and was tiring in the last quarter. CAPTAIN RAY began slowly, but closed up steadily and was gaining on the leader through the last eighth. STARTER dropped back on the stretch turn, but came again and finished fast. WAUKEAG was in a jam in the first eighth and, being sharply cut off, went to his knees, then closed a big gap and would have won but for interference.
