I CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF. Vandergrift, son of Ben Brush and Noonday, by Domino, will make the season of 1917 at Capt. J. B. Vileys Stonewall Stud. Richard Allman, Coulee City, Wash., reports the death of the weanling bay colt Lbne Hummingbird, by Sager, Canadian Derby winner, out of Lady Keeveena. Mr. Allman writes that this was the only thoroughbred foal in the Big Bend of the Columbia river and, as he had great hopes for this youngster, he naturally feels his deatli quite keenly. The six-year-old chestnut mare, Wilful Maid, reached Hon. J. N. Camdens Ilartland Stud last week from England. John Miller brought her from New York. She is a high-bred mare, being by Sun-dridge Marian Hood, by Martagon; second dam Maid Marian, by Hampton; third dam Quiver, by Toxopholite; in foal to Prince Palatine. Wilful Maid is the property of J. H. Wheelwright. Mrs. Annette V. Pettit bought a 440-acre tract from the Haggin estate Wednesday, of last week, through Louis T. Haggin, one of the executors, the third tract to be sold within the last few weeks. The tract, known as the Thornton Moore farm, is on the Donerail aud Bethel pikes, about seven miles from Lexington. The tract was leased by Mrs. Pettit to Charles H. Berryman to be used as a stock farm. J. W. Parrish, Midway, Ky., has purchased from Crosthwaite and Johnson for 1,000 the three-year-old chestnut mare, Triad, by Star Shoot Thirty-third dam of Buckhorn and his good Ballot two-year-old, Midway, by Sir Dixon. Mr. Tarrish will pick up seven or eight well-bred marcs to mate with Bulse when the son of Disguise and Nethersole is retired. On bloodlines, Bulse is surely well qualified for the stud, his grnndam being the St. Serf mare, Fairy Slipper, and her dam Cinderella, dam of Peter Pan, by Hermit.
