,- a E. HERZS STABLE OF OLDER HORSES HAVE WOK MOST OF HIS 8,810 TOTAL OF THIS YEAR and 4 E Ilerzs good-sized stable contained sixteen winning horses this year and, of the remaining nine, two failed to earn even a place. This owners predilection for experienced racing material is shown in the fact that his stable had but two two-year-olds and the success of his method, according to his own system of racing, is attested by the fact that the patriarch of the entire stable of twenty-iive was the one that brought home the most financial fodder, for Short Grass won 0,393 of the stables S,910 total for the year. With the imported son of Laveno Outburst retired to the stud, the responsibility for leading the stable nest year may not improbably rest upon Daddys Choice, a three-year-old bay colt by Trap Rock son of Rock Sand Earth, which not only ranked second in the stables money earners this year, but appeared to he decidedly of the improving kind, capping his seasons work by an easy victory over Spur in the Ellicott City Handicap at Li-.urel at a big advantage in the weigiits, it is true, yet constituting a performance that must have been gratifying to his shrewd owner. Daddys Choice is of the "good finishing" type, his victories practically always finding him "coming from behind," and he appears the most likely successor to Short Grass. This year Daddys Choice wen ,085 by six victories, a second money and five third moneys, being fourteen times unplaced. Short Grass great success this year raised Mr. Ilerz far up among the list of winning owners, his stable having earned but 0,055 in 1015. The 1916 record of the stable follows: Horse. Col. and Sex.
