THOROUGHBRED FASTER THAN THE ARAB. Writing of the racing season in France, a Paris correspondent says that the final tests at Mont-de-Marsan were specially interesting, and the racing was of a high order throughout. The south of France makes a specialty of breeding Anglo-Arabian horses, and the races for that class filled well. It is instructive to note the difference in the "times" taken to cover certain distances by thoroughbreds and Arabs. In France there is an afficial "chro-nometre," and races are timed with great exactitude. A thoroughbred is, as a rule, several seconds faster over a mile than an Arab, and in one instance at this meeting there was a difference of ten seconds in two races, distance a mile and a quarter. This demonstrates how the English thoroughbred has improved on the original .Arab stock. 1
