ORBY AND HIS TWO FLYING DAUGHTERS. Mr. Crokers Famous Derby Winner Growing in Popularity As a Sire. Orby has come into fashion this year as the sire of Diadem and Eos. although he had other vinners in Byorla. Eleanor M.. Irish Brigade. Or-litss. and Ybro. Among them they won races worth r.253 pounds, but only Lord DAbernons two fillies were out of tiie ordinary, and it is well within bounds of possibility that the two-year-old sister to Diadumenos was the best of the year. Her speed is far above the average, and her action so perfect and effortless that one is encouraged to hope that she will prove at least as good, if not a better, stayer than her near relative, which retired from a useful racing career after the Newmarket S] ring Handicap. June was well advanced before Diadem made her debut, and electrified us all hy a brilliant exhibition in the Coventry Stakes, after which she won in similar fashion the Fulbourne Stakes at Newmarket, the Eton at Windsor, and finally the Moulton Stakes over the Rous Course. Once only was she beaten, and valid excuse for her failur in the Hopeful Stakes exists, for she was seriously balked at starting. Eos was in the first flight of last years juveniles, and added to her reputation this year by winning the Manor Handicap at Gatwiek, the Falmouth Stakes behind the Ditch, and, most important of all. the Cambridgeshire, in which race she treated the company to a stylish display, finishing with a bold show out of the Abingdon dip, and thus confounding her detractors, who opined that she would not stay. That was a great day for Lord DAbemon, who scored a splendid double event, but it is not recorded whether the achievement was celebrated by a bumper of the wine that sparkles, or a dish of the fragrant tea which cheers but does not inebriate. — London Sportsman of December 16.
