The Mighty and other tin r .itighbreds that raced over local race courses, is a booster of the pari-mutuel system of wagering. Ferguson paid a visit to Kentucky a couple of years ago and was surprised to see how the machines had rejuvenated the racing and breeding industry. Ferguson retired from the sport when the tracks wen closed down in California and is now engaged in busiiess here: but he says, that if some favoral 1 legislation is secured with the pari-mutuels, he in-t-nds to go; together a string of horses again and take part in the revival. "The beauty of the machine wagering is that it eliminated the bookmakers ami also does away with Other objectionable elements that brought the game into disrepute." he says. "It was a pleasure to me to see how clean the snort is conducted in Kentucky and the propcroiis condition of the breeding industry. Parses have been raised to TOO under the State Ruing Commission, and this gives the horsemen a chance to run their horses without the necessity of betting. Naturally, with racing prosperous, tlie breeding farms have been encouraged. "I am hopeful lor the future of racing in California. Witli each prominent men as A. K. Mi comber. Charles W. Clark, John H. Bosettcr. Edward Cebrian, Captain McKittrick. Oeorgc W. Wingfield and the like, it BteajH that the old state of affairs witi our sport will be cleaned up, and it will take its place on a standard with the east, whan many of the wealthy and prominent men have their silks represented."
