USEFUL WORK OF KINGS PLATERS. Candidates for Saturdays Big Race Given Stiff Work -Outs Over the Plate Distance. Toronto. Out., May 10. — A number of Kings Plate candidates were given stiff work for their engagement Saturday, including the J. E. Seagram eligible*. Galley Head and Belle Mahone went a mile and a quarter in 2:17 handily, the first mile in 1:49. Sturdee and Gala Dress went their mile in 1:45%, and the Plate distance in 2:15. Statim and Gala Water worked in the same time as the first pair. Gala Day and Smithfield had a mile in 1:48%. Cold Galore and Tea Cup went three-quarters in 1:29% and Phillistine in 1:23. The two-year-olds went three eighths from the barrier in 37 %. A work that rather surprised some of the spectators was the mile and a quarter of Re.v Gaiety in 2:15, going handily. The first mile was in 1:48*4. This big colt was bred by his owner. Ed. Glasseo of Windsor, and is a son of the BBC fill old mare Miss Gaiety. His sire was St. Bass, hims-lf a winner of the Guineas. Charles Crews Oriana, taken from the "hidings stable ia a selling race at Fort Erie, did three-quarters in 1:12%, but went the next quarter at worse than a two-minute pace, finishing the mile in 1:50--,. She had Pepper Sauce as a workmate. J. W. Ilunley tatted off tartly after showing speed in the early part of a mile in 1:50. BaaeB Square went away with him. and beat him home a couple of seconds. The brother to Hamilton is not a likely starter. Fair Fox went three quarters in 1:20 Bad Mc-Bride five eighths in 1:07. Neither has been far enough in serious work to look like starting next Saturday. Graphic Works Fast Three -Quarters. The fastest three-OBSrtera of the year was aaowB by the Thorneliffe Stables filly Graphic, which put ia the distance in 1:1S%, the first half mile better than 49 seconds. Commonada also made the mile mark in 1:45. Other works of a pleasant morning on a good track were: Loxon and .loffre, throe-eighths in 37-.-,: Doliiia. three quarters in 1:22; Ada Anne. Miss Fay and Princess Fay. the same distance in 1:18%; Ceaaar, three-eighths in 92%, Fair Mon t.igue. mile iii 1:17: Opera Mass, three -quarters in 1:18%; Beyboara and Scaramouch, three-quarters ia 1:19%; Goblet and Dandy, three-eighths from the barrier in 39; Miss Gayle, three-quarters in 1:17 -.-. . Yesterdays arrivals included the Gorman stable from Ottawa: Ed Moores consignment from Ken -tacky, including several owned in Canada: Ed Trotters string, and A. C Capps Mr. Mack. Mee-liok.i and Glitter. In Bd Moores car were: William the Fourth. American Express. Lady Matchmaker. Jack Reeves, Arriet. Don Thrush. Beauty Si«.t, Schemi r, Sea Irchin and the two-vear-old Zulu-land. A. N. Akin is the best known of the horses Ed Trotter brought in. Tl then were: Black Basons, Dr. Caiasia, MeAaoo, Pomp.
