CAPITAL AQUEDUCT RACING. THREE STAKE RACES ATTRACT A BIG CROWD AND FURNISH SPIRITED CONTESTS. Sun Briar Vanquishes Lucullito and Tracksond in a Closo Finish Old Rosebud Victor in tho Queens County Handicap. New York, June 30. The afternoons program was rich in stake offerings, for aside from the Queens County Handicap, i the Great American Stakes of ,000 and tiie Winfield Steeplechase with ,000 added, were decided. It was the Great American, the two-year-old stake, that brought out the best contest of the afternoon, when Sun llriar, Lueullite and Tracksend finished noses apart in the order named. The success of Sun Briar marked the first important victory of the year for the Willis Sliarpe Kilmer establishment and netted that sportsman ,250. The Sundridgc colt set a fast early pace and after being headed, came again and outstayed Lueullite "and Tracksend at the end. He stumbled at the quarter post, or it is possible his margin of victory would have been greater. Lueullite, the Belmont star, and a two-tim stake winner, apparently had no mischance for, although forced to race wide, this disadvantage was offset by the better going in that part of the track. Tracksend raced in most resolute fashion and responded, well to the whip, but was on the inside, where the going was deepest. The Great American Stakes has an interesting history dating back to 1880. The list of its winners since 1000 is as follows: Year. "Winner. "Wt. Jockey. Val. Time. 1000 Prince Charles ..122 N. Turner.? 9,750 1:02 1001 Blue Girl 122 T. Sages Martian, favored by his light impost, displayed a good performance to take the "Winfield Steeplechase in handy fashion. Skib-bcreen and Sun King were the public choices, but raced disappointingly. Tho West Scores Its First Important Victory. The West scored its first important victory in this section when II. C. Applegates Old Rosebud galloped home an easy winner in the Queens County Handicap, the stellar attraction at Aqueduct today, defeating a number of the best eastern handicap horses in training. The victory of the son of Uncle was accomplished in a fashion that stamped him master of his opponents today, and, though some excuses may be made for Chiclet and The Finn, there is little reason to believe they tuld have beaten the winner with better racing lu ik. Orniesdale was tho one to cut out the running for nearly the first half, after acting in a most fractious manner at the webbing. At this stage of the race Robinson sent Old Rosebud to the front and, quickly passing the early pacemaker, drew away and easily held his advantage to the end. Roamer, always well up, closed up some ground in the stretch. Chiclet began slowly and was forced to race wide, but closed a big gap to take third place. The Finn was ridden with poor judgn ant. This was the twelfth running of the Queens County Handicap, the history of which hi here briefly presented: Year. Winner. A.Wt. Jockey. Val. John Whalen will bring on twenty-eight yearlings, the property of the Wickliffe Stable, frcm Kentucky next week and the future racers will receive their initial education over the Gravesend track, where they will be quartered. Frank Weir will not ship Old Rosebud to Hamilton for his stake engagement at that :rack, but will point the soil of Uncle for the Front er Handicap at Windsor. Other topnotch eastern stake racers, who appear probable starters in hat event, are H. P. Whitneys Regret and Borrow and A. K. Macombers Boots.
