CLOSE STAKES FOR LAUREL MEETING Saratoga, N. Y., August 27. Stakes to be run at the Laurel Park meeting in Maryland during the month of October, closed Friday. There are twenty-two of these stakes in all, with features arraiiged for all divisions. The chief event of the Laurel meeting, so far as stake offerings go, are the National Handicap, with 2,500 added, at a mile and an eighth, for three-year-olds and over; then comes the Washington Handicap at the same distance and same conditions, with 2,000 added; the Baltimore Handicap, another 2,000 added money stake, at a mile and a six-teenth, and the Dixie Handicap, the Anne Arundel y Selling Stakes and the Howard Selling Stakes, all of these being for the older division. I The stakes for the three-year-olds are the El- licott City ,at a mile and a sixteenth and the Car-rollton Handicap, at three-quarters, both with 1,500 added money. For the two-year-olds there are four stakes at 2,000 and 1,500 each. There also are two 1,500 events for the jumpers and eight 1,500 stakes, including handicaps and condition races, for all ages from two-year-olds up, all but two of which are over the three-quarters route.
