INTEREST SWAYS TO BELMONT MEETING Racing- Men Already Making- Plans for Shipments for Opening- Next Saturday. By Ed Cole. Saratoga, N. Y., August 27. Racing men here are beginning to look in the direction of Belmont Park. After todays races are concluded there will be a "grand slam" for the trains and boats which carry the surging crowd towards New York. Saratoga gets tiresome after a long session of racing. The sameness attached to it and the continuous gossip and scandal in connection with both man and horse become at times nauseating. It was ever thus at Saratoga, where everyone rubs elbows witli his neighbor and scandal spreads like a prairie fire. The racing, too, during the final weeks becomes almost dull and uninteresting excepting in spots. Desperation on the part of some folk is also felt in the market houses of speculators. Belmont Park opens next Saturday and the change of scene will be welcome to many. Track conditions have been such that owners could not wager on their horses with any degree of certainty, hence anxiety to get away. Many will leave early this week, some going to Belmont Park and quite a number shooting toward Maryland and Kentucky. Belmont should have a banner autumn meeting owing to the seventeen stakes to be decided, including the Futurity and the Lawrence Realization Stakes, both of which events have been transferred from the defunct Coney Island Club to Belmont Park. At present the latter stake is at the mercy of Omar Khayyam, being over a mile and a half course, which will suit the big three-year-old to the letter. This prediction is made presuming that Hourless is not at his best and even should lie be it is a question whether he will stay as well as Omar Khayyam. Ticket will be one of the contenders owing to the route, the belief being general that Rickety is not particularly anxious for a race of more than a mile and an eighth.
