OFFER MADE FOR MAIDEN ERLEGH Greek Turfman Desires English. Stallion Recently Bought by A. B. Hancock of Kentucky. Lexington, Ky., -August 30. Arthur B. Hancock of Paris, Ky., master of the Claiborne and Ellers-lie Studs, is in receipt of an inquiry by cable from the British Bloodstock Agency of London, as. .to whether or not he would resell the English thoroughbred stallion Maiden Erlegh, and further that the inquiry was made on behalf of M. Varipati, a Greek buyer. Mr. Hancock replied by cable that he wishes to keep Maiden Erlegh. The stallion is expected to arrive in America in the near future. With him will come Bessie Melton, six-year-bld daughter of Melton Bess Orange, by William the Third; Red Hair, a six-year-old daughter of AVilliam Rufus Ragusa, by Cyllene, and Simenas Daughter eleven-year-old sister. ti William .Rufus and Henry the First, by MeltOh Simena. by St. Simon. Charles T. Patterson spent today here looking at horses, principally yearlings, presumnblyi for his employer, Robert L. Gerry. lie visited the farms of John E. Madden, Carr and Piatt and others. The track this morning was muddy after a steady downpour last night. J. B. Respess string is expected here early next week, stalls having been reserved for him. Respess has not raced here since the spring of 1909, when he prepared Wiutcrgreen for the Kentucky Derby. Jockey Clarence Dishmon had a narrow escape from death here this morning. Trainer Dennys presence of mind and quick action saved him. Dishmon was exercising R. L. Bakers J. C. Stone on the Kentucky Association track. The horse stumbled and fell, witli Dishmon under him. In struggling to get up " the horse got one of his legs through the bridle rein and this caused . him to fall back on Dishmon. Finally Denny succeeded in getting the bridle off the horse. Dishmon -was painfully bruised, but had no bones broken.
