LARGE CROWD AT ST. LOUIS. SUMMER WEATHER BRINGS OUT BIG ATTENDANCE AT MAXWELTON PARK. Mud Runners Favored by Heavy Track Opening Race to Littlo Cottage Korf hage Wins - . . the Feature Bertodano Scores. St. Louis, Mo., August 30. The second dayTs racing at Maxweltou Park brought out a large crowd and they were treated with real sumnrer weather. The track has not dried out much since the heavy rains of Tuesday. The mud runners had the best of it. Little Cottage, a superior horse in heavy going, won the opening race. After being hopelessly outrun ju the first quarter, the colt saved ground in; the stretch and won in a drive. J. M. Booker furnished the winner of the fehtiik-e Rice, a sprint of three-quarters, in his gelding Korfhage. which won in a canter. The mile and fifty yards race, the fourth on the card, went to Bertodano. which had to be shaken up at the finish to withstand the closing rush of Meulo Park. Sam Louis three-year-old Irregular had little trouble winning the fifth race, James G. offering the only serious opposition. The sixth race resulted in the overthrow of Louise Stone, which won so easily yesterday. The winner turned up in Athletic Girl, which was not seriously considered by the form backers.- The management lias changed all the rest of the six and a half furlongs races to three-quarters for the next eight days of the meeting. Harry Hopper, who arrived froni Detroit thjs morning, is looking over the horses here to get some useful material for winter racing. . , !
