CURRENT NOTES OF THE TURF The three-year-old Cheer Leader will attempt to make it four straight at New Orleans today. Frank M. Bray, who trains for A. L. Aste, eastern turfman, is a recent arrival from New York. The Aste thoroughbreds are in winter quarters in the Empire State. Bird Man, entered in the second race at Jefferson Park today, has the unusual record of having been left at the post in the last three races, in which he was carded to start. News of the death at San Diego, Cal.. of Eddie Irons, well-known in racing circles, has been received at New Orleans. Irons had been actively connected with racing for many years. The New York transfer tax appraiser has fixed the value of the estate of Diamond Jim" Brady at ,219,804. It had been supposed Brady left ,000,000. He owed; 5,S04 for jewels. Jeorge Billerman has arrived at New Orleans from Tijuana, with five horses. All were in good condition. In the consignment are Diadi, Dr. Bamberger, Broncho Billy, Matches and Maud Bacon. John Sanfords horses in winter quarters at Charleston; S. C, include besides the fine band of yearlings, the Kentucky Derby winner, George Smith. Gex, Achilles, Meteorite, Overmatch, Stitch in Time, Valerius and Tippify WItchct. Jockey Earl Pool, formerly one of the countrys leading lightweight riders, is a recent arrival at the Jefferson Parisli track. He came from San, Francisco. In .recent years Tool has confined his riding operations mostly to the west. He will ride free lance. Jockey Tommy Parrington. contract rider for the Mirasol Stable, has left New Orleans for New York;- He will remain there until racing is resumed in that section next spring. The Mirasol Stable is owned by Henry Watersou, the song publisher. Horsemen who are in New Orleans from the west, say that Maud Bacon, which arrived there in George Blllernians string, is one of the fastest fillies in the country. Twenty-six horses arrived in the western consignment, after being on the cars several days from San Dieso, Cal. George A. Alexandra has given notice that he will sell at public auction in tlte paddock at the Shrewsbury track. New Orleans, Saturday, December 22, the following horses: Hawthorn, Privet Petal, Grape Shot, Baron de Kalb, Spring Valley, Lieutenant Sawyer, Caro Nome, Shaban, Galeswinthe and Billy Nestlehouse. Alexandra is disposing of his entire string which he shipped here from Laurel, Md. Jim Osborne, formerly chief assistant to starter Harry Morrissey on the Kentucky racing circuit, is working at Jefferson Park as one of starter A. B. Dades assistants. He was associated with Dade Jast winter ab the Fair Grounds meeting arid has, been with him since. Osborne lias a host of friends iu Kentucky. He is one of the best assistant starters in the -country and he enjoys the confidence of owners, . trainers. . and jockeys alike. .
