KAY SPENCE HOME FROM HAVANA Leading Money Winning Owner at Cuban Meeting Arrives at Louisville — Many Others Get in. Louisville. Ky.. April 8. — Owners, trainers, jockeys and race followers are now arriving in this city from the winter racing centers in large numbers and their coming has enlivened matters at loth local tracks, where increased activity is seen mi every hand. Among the more recent arrivals from Havana are Kay Sjience and Joe Umeiisetter. who arrived in advance of their horses. Both owners enjoyed a good winter season. Spence led the list of winning owners, while Umensetter was fourth on the list. Both of their stables are due here shortly. Among the newcomers from Hot Springs were Harry Xeusteter. who lirolight Good Counsel and Mistress Pollv. The latter is ■ candidate for the Ashland and Kentuekv Oaks. The six-year-old tUeipner. also lielonging to Mr. Neusteter. was fired last winter, and is now in training at Lexington. Jockey U. Bolton, attached to the Neusteter stable, arrived with his employer. Frank Davton is a recent arrival at Churchill Downs, having come from Havana, where he raced Sargon II.. the onlv horse lie owns at present. Jockey Chris Miller, who staged a "comeback" in the saddle at Havana during last winter, where he rode for Mr. Davton. got in yesterday. He will apply for a license to ride in Kentucky this spring, but will not be able to accept any mounts for some time owing to an injury he received to his right leg when the horse. Sargon II.. threw him in a race the second last dav of the Havana meeting. Miller is one of the old-timers who used to ride on the Sail Francisco tracks eight or ten years ago. Rody Patterson arrived from the east yesterday and announced that he had decided to take charge of the horses belonging to R. L. Gerry, which were being trained by his brother Charles at the time of his death a short time ago. The horses of the Keystone Stable, which Body Patterson has in training at Douglas Park, will Ih- turned over to some other trainer A fine-looking two-year-old Marta Santa fillv, belonging to Mr. Patterson, will lie sold here before he leaves for New York. Jockev G. W. Carroll, who rode for W. Goose at Hot Springs, has arrived and will probably accept an offer to ride for It. P. Brooks, who has a small stable at Churchill Downs. Jockey Dreyer is another recent arrival. He is attached to the stable of W. M. Moody. A
