BELLE OF BRYN MAWR WINS * . Proves Best in the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase. • Wonderful Contest Through the Field — Bondage and The Porter Win Their Races. ♦ Baltimore. Md.. May 11.— The Green Spring Valley Steeplechase was the stellar attraction offered by tin- Maryland Jockey thih this afternoon at rimlico and every uiKik and corner of Marylands most Mipiilar ravins course w«s crowded, the members of the various hunt clubs, and adherents of the cross -country sport being strongly represented in the clubhouse contingent. Every box was filled and the grandstand was a seething mass of humanity. Clear skies and warm weather combined to make it an ideal day for outdoor sport. The track was at its best and speculation in the 11111-tuels the heaviest of the meeting. Fifteen of the best jumpers in the country went to the post in the Green Spring Valley Steeplechase and. surprising as it may seem, all fifteen finished the course. Brooks, the Manly Memorial winner of last year, was favorite, but never figured prominently. The winner came from the stable of W. A. Prime, his Ort Wells mare. Belle of Bryn Mawr taking the lead going to the last fence and gamely held her advantage to the end. Trampator was second and Captain Parr third. Silver Dart was coupled with the winner and set the pace until her stablemat-joined the last time around, then dropiied back. Captain Parrs race was a good one. He forced the pace all the way and only tired near the end. It was one of the best contests over the jumps seen in years ami caught the big crowds fancy judging from the applause bestowed on the winner and her rider as they returned to the scales. The winners portion of the stake was KM the second horse receiving ,000. the third 00 and the fourth 30. Next in interest to the big steeplechas- race was the Belvedere Handicap, in which Bondag ■ confirmed the good form he displayed when he finished second to Cudgel in the Pimlico Spring Handicap by winning in a canter. Mary Maud an I Damrosch finished behind him in the order named. The Porter gave evidence today that he will have to be reckoned with next Wedii.-sday in the valuable Preakness Stakes. He beat a niimlier of fast horses in the Equity Handicap, leading home Tumbler. Dr. Johnson. Tea Caddy and others. Penrose ran back to the good form she displayed at Havre de Grace and outran Agnes Cook and Sweeplet from start to finish in the opening race, drawing away into a big lead at the end. This daughter of Sweep is possessed of a good turn of speed and appears to tx- above the ordinary. PRODUCER RUNS BAD RACE. Producer furnished a surprise to the hackers of favorites and it was far from a pleasant surprise when he failed to have anything t» do with the running of the second race, in which lie was a warmly supported favorite. The winner turned up in Goblin, which lieat Golden Glow in a fast closing finish. Brisk scored in runaway fashion 111 the Junior tat, run as the sixth race, while Woodtrap upset calculations in the closing dash by beating unite easily Waukeag and Obolus. most fancied by the talent. Pat ONeil. the steeplechase jockey, who was injured seriously while riding Khomb in the third race at Iimlico yesterday, when lis mount, after taking one of the jumps, threw his rider, was _ unconscious when picked up and rushed to a le spit.il. Physicians believe ONeill is suffering from a fractured skull. Arthur Klrod. who has the agency for the Palace Horse Car Company, in connection with the Adams Express Company, has arranged for several specials to leave Pimlico for New York.
