TURF NOTES FROM LANDS ABROAD The Belgian Society of Encouragement has elected as president Count Jean de Merode in place of Count Eugene dOuItreniout, who died recently. The Italians have been making some important purchases of bloodstock in France, and the good race horse and future stallion, Munibe, and several two-year-old colts and yearlings have recently been sent to fresh quarters at Pisa. According to a statement issued by the Jockey Club of Belgium, 380 horses remain in training in Belgium, sixty two-year-olds, sixty three-year-olds, forty four-year-olds and twenty older animals. The first race meetingwill take place on May 4 at Boitsfort. French breeders of bloodstock are complaining bitterly of the lack of facilities which are accorded them for sending mares for service at the stud, boxes being so difficult to obtain for that purpose that the attention of the government has been called to the matter. Lally by Amphion was by far the most successful stallion in Italy last year, his stock having won races or the value or 1919.sh9,000.
